Take these actions
- Meet with your manager this week to begin developing your transition plan.
Developing your transition plan
Share any updates since your first meeting together - has your expected leave date changed? Do you have any work restrictions you didn’t have previously?
Come prepared with a list of projects you are working on, your day-to-day tasks, important dates and milestones, and who you think could cover you when you go on leave.
If you are unsure, no worries, as this is only a starting point for a transition plan that you and your manager will develop together.
Some questions you might consider during this meeting:
- Will projects/customers be temporarily or permanently transitioned to someone else on the team?
undefinedundefined - Do we have the internal resources to perform the work in my absence or should we hire additional staff?
- What needs to be completed before I go on leave and what help do I need to complete these activities (and from whom)?
- What are the key projects/tasks I am working on that will need to continue through my leave?
undefined - What cover do I think is required to ensure my role and its requirements are met during my leave?
- How would I like to communicate this transition to customers/vendors I work with?
After this meeting
- Collaborate with your manager to complete your transition plan.
- Work with your manager to coordinate with people who will pick up project work, as appropriate.
Schedule the final meeting with your manager 2-3 weeks before your anticipated leave date. In this meeting you will:
- Make final tweaks to your transition plan and begin transitioning work.
- Discuss your initial thoughts on what your return to work schedule might be.
- Chat about how or if you would like to receive communication while on your leave.
You will receive a detailed Pyn a week in advance of this last meeting that outlines what to prepare.
